Getting Started!

Counseling can be an exciting, yet anxiety producing, endeavor. We've listed a few things here that will give you an idea of what to expect. First, the more we know about you, the more we will be able to help. For this reason, when you make an appointment, you will receive an email with a link to a client portal. There you will fill out some basic information about yourself that will help us get a better understanding of your goals for therapy. If you are attending a telehealth session, you will also be provided a link for your video session. If you are attending an in-person session, your therapist will pick you up from the lobby.

Your First Session!

Your first session  will be a little different from future visits. In the initial meeting we will focus on getting to know each other and coming up with a plan that will help you reach your goals. The first question that usually comes up is "what brings you into counseling today?" The initial session will be spent obtaining background information on you and asking questions that will help us meet your goals.

Therapy

Sessions are 50 minutes and we will finish up by collecting any fees or copays and then scheduling the next appointment.  Toward the end of the first appointment we will talk about the frequency of visits and what will work for you in order to meet your goals. Typically, this means weekly sessions for the first phase of therapy and then decreasing visits to every other week when you and your therapist feel comfortable doing so. You will also have some time at the end of session to ask any questions about your therapist or the process of counseling. That's it! We will then be on our way to reaching your goals! We look forward to meeting with you.

Wrapping Up!
