YOUR FIRST VISIT
Counseling can be an exciting, yet anxiety producing, endeavor. I've listed a few things here that will give you an idea of what to expect. First, the more I know about you, the more I will be able to help. For this reason, when you make an appointment, you will receive an email with a link to a client portal (also listed below). There you will fill out some basic information about yourself that will help me get a better understanding of your goals for therapy. You will then be provided with a link that will take you to the online portal where your telehealth appointment will be held. At the time of your appointment, I will log in and we will go over some of the initial paperwork together.
Our first session together will be a little different from future visits. In our initial meeting we will focus on getting to know each other and coming up with a plan that will help you reach your goals. The first question that usually comes up is "what brings you into counseling today?" The initial session will be spent obtaining background information on you and asking questions that will help us meet your goals.
Your First Session!
The first session usually lasts about an hour and we will finish up by collecting any fees or copays and then scheduling our next appointment. Toward the end of the first appointment we will talk about the frequency of visits and what will work for you in order to meet your goals. Typically, this means weekly sessions for the first phase of therapy and then decreasing visits to every other week when you and I feel comfortable doing so. I will also give you some time at the end of session to ask any follow up questions about me or the process of counseling. That's it! We will then be on our way to reaching your goals! I look forward to meeting with you.
